Objectives
of the club: Meet other cyclists, have safe and enjoyable rides, get involved in county and city politics relating to cycling, provide positive public relations and be good cyclist role models, learn more about bicycles and riding, and attend other rides as a club.
News
- New Ride Times. The Monday ride for cyclists new to group riding and the Thursday tempo ride will start at 5:45 p.m. The Tuesday faster ride still starts at 6 p.m. These times will roll back to 5:30 p.m. in mid-September, so get out there while we still have some dayling. The Saturday ride is still 8 a.m., it will shift to 9 a.m. when temperatures cool down consistently.
- Local Rides. Looking for rides in the area? Try these. Suggestions for routes? ontact the Monticello webmaster.
- 2011 Century. The Fifth Annual Monticello Solano Century is set for Sunday, May 22, 2011. There will be three routes: 100 miles, 65 miles, and a 25-35 mile route. Riders this year were greeted by cool temperatures and blustery winds; most riders agreed this was better than the 100-plus degrees of the past two years. More details will be available later this summer.
- McGary Road Update 8-6-10. The southside I-80 frontage road between Red Top and Lynch Canyon is paved and fences are down. Looks like the contractor has some finishing concrete work, sweeping, and striping. It should be ready for a ribbon cutting shortly.
- Dues Reminder. Club dues are only $20 and are paid annually for the calendar year. Look here for the application.
- New Board Meeting site. Like almost everyone else in the country, we're trying to reduce our expenses. Two of the things the Board decided to do are to move from Pietro's #2 and no longer pay for dinner. Beginning February 22, 6:30 p.m., we'll meet at El Patron, 506 Main Street, Vacaville (BYOB: Buy your own burrito). It's across the street from the Bell Tower plaza and a few doors down from Ray's.
- Lagoon Valley. A longtime Club goal is to make Lagoon Valley trails ridable (and runnable). It looks like we're almost there. Vacaville has agreed to partner with us for trail maintenance, where we will supply labor and the city will provide tools. The city will provide staff when we need to use herbicides and motorized tools. Club directors voted to invest $250 to cover start up costs. Stay tuned for opportunities to help increase our riding (and running) options. At our Oct. 26 meeting IMBA's Tom Ward provided information on trail building and working with land managers to build sustainable (low maintenance) trails. It looks like we'll be able to get an IMBA trail crew in 2010.
